ABOUT

Ilmirak Seongsu is a Korean BBQ restaurant near Ttukseom Station, known for pork aged with salt-koji (rice koji) before being grilled. Rather than focusing only on standard samgyeopsal, the restaurant's signature is its fermented pork: Salt-Koji Fermented Gabrisal and Salt-Koji Fermented Pork Collar. The aging process is intended to give the pork a tender texture and deeper savory flavor, while the restaurant also uses direct grilling to add a smoky aroma. For visitors who want a more familiar Korean BBQ experience, thick-cut pork belly and pork collar are also available. The menu goes beyond meat with flame-grilled pork ribs, gochujang pork, spicy squid, deodeok and several Korean-style finishing dishes. This makes Ilmirak suitable both for a focused pork BBQ meal and for a longer shared dinner with several dishes.

WHAT LOCALS SAY

Recent reviews repeatedly mention the tender texture and rich flavor of the fermented pork, particularly the gabrisal and pork collar. An August 2026 review described the fermented meat as flavorful and juicy and specifically praised the gabrisal and pork collar. Several reviews also mention that staff grill the meat for customers, making the meal easier for people unfamiliar with Korean BBQ. The restaurant's accompaniments are another part of the experience. Diners mention various sauces, salt and side dishes, allowing the same pork to be eaten in several different ways. The restaurant's own description emphasizes the combination of fermented pork and direct-fire aroma rather than relying on heavy seasoning. Lunch can still be busy. One Polle reviewer described encountering a wait even on a weekday afternoon, while recent reviews also describe the restaurant as suitable for group meals and company gatherings. The restaurant is fairly close to Ttukseom Station, so it is practical to combine with a Seongsu or Seoul Forest visit.

Ilmirak is about a 3-minute walk from Ttukseom Station, making it easy to reach by subway. It is in the quieter Seongsu/Ttukseom side of the neighborhood rather than directly on the busiest café streets. Parking is available, but it is paid, so public transportation is still the simplest option for most travelers. For a first visit, two people can share fermented gabrisal and fermented pork collar, or choose one fermented cut and one familiar cut such as thick-cut pork belly. Staff assistance with grilling is particularly useful if you have never eaten Korean BBQ before. If you want a more complete Korean meal, add a finishing dish such as doenjang rice stew, spicy mixed noodles or cold buckwheat noodles.
